The national research project TAP-dementia aims to improve the diagnostic process for dementia. TAP-dementia stands for Timely, Accurate and Personalised Diagnosis of Dementia. Researchers from across the Netherlands are joining forces to improve the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. This is of great importance to patients and their families, as well as attending physicians. In addition, making the correct diagnosis is the starting point for developing better treatments and drugs in the future.
Follow-up actions TAP dementia
Important steps have been taken for Alzheimer’s disease in recent years. For example, brain damage from the disease can now be diagnosed with certainty during life. For other diseases that cause dementia, this is not yet possible. Diseases that cause dementia also need to be diagnosed better and faster. These include vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies and fronto-temporal dementia.
To achieve this, the partners in the research project will:

• See if new and existing tests work well
• Use the tests that work well in practice
